Supporting Healthcare Transformation in Saudi Arabia: Acuative and Elastic Help Lean Improve Observability

Introduction

At Acuative Middle East, we work with organizations that make a real difference. One of those organizations is Lean Business Services, a key technology partner to the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia. Lean plays a central role in supporting the country’s healthcare transformation goals under Vision 2030, delivering digital services that improve healthcare access and efficiency nationwide.

A Complex Infrastructure with Limited Visibility

Lean operates a large, fast-moving IT environment built on Kubernetes clusters and microservices. This setup supports a wide range of digital health services used across the country. But as the system grew in complexity, so did the challenges.

Lean’s teams struggled to monitor performance effectively, detect issues early, or understand the root cause of system disruptions. Logs and metrics were spread across different tools, and engineers were spending too much time searching for answers instead of preventing problems.

“We wanted to be more proactive and fix issues before they reached end users,” said Haitham Alsulmy, Executive Director of IT Operations and Services at Lean.

A Clear Goal: Real-Time Monitoring and Simpler Operations

Lean needed a single platform to help their teams stay ahead of problems, something that could handle large volumes of data, support modern technologies, and offer clear insights across systems.

They selected Elastic Observability for its flexibility, scalability, and built-in tools for log analysis, performance monitoring, and anomaly detection. To make the most of the solution, Lean brought in Acuative as their implementation partner.

Fast Deployment, Real Results

As an Elite Elastic Partner in the region, we worked closely with Lean to design and deploy the solution in a way that fits their environment and operational needs.

In just 10 days, Elastic Observability was fully deployed. Within three months, it covered 80% of Lean’s infrastructure and processed over 1.2 terabytes of data daily.

Our team supported:

  • Configuration and optimization of Elastic components
  • Integration with Lean’s existing systems and microservices
  • Fine-tuning for performance and long-term efficiency
  • Hands-on training and support for Lean’s engineers

“Acuative’s team knew exactly what needed to be done. Their knowledge made all the difference during the deployment,” Alsulmy said.

Moving from Reactive to Proactive

The impact was clear. With real-time dashboards and faster diagnostics, Lean’s teams could now identify slowdowns, detect system failures early, and resolve issues before they affected service.

Elastic APM (Application Performance Monitoring) allowed them to trace problematic transactions, pinpoint bottlenecks, and reduce manual investigation time.

“We’ve shifted from chasing issues to preventing them,” said Alsulmy. “That means more time spent improving the system, and less time reacting to problems.”

Better Communication and Stronger Collaboration

With improved visibility, communication between business and technical teams also improved. Service teams were no longer waiting for IT to respond—they were informed in real time, with updates and timelines already in place.

“We don’t just respond to issues—we guide the resolution process. That’s made our operations more reliable and transparent,” Alsulmy added.

Smarter Use of Resources

Lean also made use of Elastic’s data tiering features to manage older observability data without the cost of high-performance storage. This allowed them to meet compliance requirements without overspending on infrastructure.

Looking Ahead

With the foundation in place, Lean is expanding the use of Elastic dashboards to more teams, including product and development groups. They’re also planning to explore machine learning features for early detection of unusual patterns and system behavior.

“Elastic has become a key part of how we manage our systems—and Acuative helped us get there,” said Alsulmy.

Our Role in a Larger Mission

This project is about more than just technology, it’s about helping healthcare work better for people. Lean’s work supports hospitals, clinics, and health professionals across the Kingdom, and we’re proud to support them in return.

At Acuative, we believe good solutions solve real problems. We focus on doing the work that matters—with the right tools, the right expertise, and a clear understanding of what’s needed.

If your team is facing challenges with monitoring, security, or scale, let’s have a conversation. We’re ready when you are.
